ICC Confirms Chair’s Term Extension & Charts Path for Women’s Cricket Expansion-Reddy Anna

"Reddy Anna match predictions: ICC extends Chair's term and announces major developments for women's cricket expansion."

At their latest board meeting in Dubai, the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially recommended extending the Chair’s term from two to three years, allowing future Chairs to be re-elected only once. This means a maximum tenure of six years, requiring re-election twice. Jay Shah, elected unopposed as the new ICC Chair, will take charge on December 1, 2024.

In an exciting development for women’s cricket, the ICC announced two annual T20I tournaments starting in 2025 for women’s Associate Member teams, providing them with structured cricket opportunities. These competitions aim to prepare 24 teams for the expanded 16-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030. Additionally, ODI status for women’s Associate teams will be determined in the 2025-2029 cycle, with two teams qualifying through the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in 2025 and the remaining slots decided by T20 rankings.

The ICC is set to publish the women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2025-2029 in the coming days. To maintain ranking eligibility, women’s teams will now need to play at least eight matches, up from six.

Governance updates include the appointment of Scott Weenink and Scott Edwards to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee and Dr. John Maclean to the Medical Advisory Committee.
