Bosch’s 74 off 48 balls powered the Proteas to their second consecutive final and their first-ever T20 World Cup win against the six-time champions. South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, couldn’t contain her excitement during the post-match press conference, hailing Bosch’s performance. Wolvaardt, who was Bosch’s partner for a 96-run stand, described the innings as one of Bosch’s best. The decision to promote Bosch to No. 3 had raised eyebrows, but her stunning display justified the move, guiding South Africa to a dominant win.
“That was unbelievable. It was probably the innings of her career, and what a time to bring it out,” Wolvaardt said. “Her intent was incredible, and she delivered exactly what the team needed. It was a free hit for both of us, and we just wanted to keep going.”
Bosch’s innings not only took the pundits by surprise but also confirmed the belief the South African team had in her. Despite not having the best tournament until this game, Bosch showcased her full range of strokes, including reverse sweeps that kept the Australian bowlers at bay.
The venue also played its part in South Africa’s win. Wolvaardt admitted that their familiarity with Dubai’s pitch, having played three of their four league games there, gave them an edge. Australia, on the other hand, had only played one game at the same venue.
Though Wolvaardt was thrilled with the win, she remained focused on the final, stating, “We’ve crossed one big hurdle, but we have a bigger game ahead of us. We’ll celebrate tonight but focus on the final tomorrow.”
