Alyssa Healy’s Foot Injury Ends Australia’s T20 Run – Reddy Anna Match Predictions Insight
Australia’s skipper, Alyssa Healy, has revealed that rupturing her plantar fascia in both feet midway through the tournament left her with only “one game in her” for the rest of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. In a bold decision, Healy chose to sit out of Thursday’s semifinal against South Africa, a move she now admits might have been the wrong risk. South Africa capitalized on Healy’s absence and their previous win against Australia to end the defending champions’ reign with an 8-wicket victory in the first semifinal in Dubai.
“I ruptured my plantar fascia—one completely and the other partially,” Healy explained. “It came down to function, pain, and what I could handle. Ultimately, I only had one game in me and took the wrong punt,” she added.
Healy suited up for team photos but didn’t feature in the match, leaving Tahlia McGrath to captain the unchanged Australian XI from their Sharjah victory. While Australia’s management hoped for Healy’s return in the knockouts, the skipper admitted it was a tough call: “I tried to make the team decision and sat myself down instead of taking the risk.” She praised South Africa’s intent during the match, noting, “They out-intended us—came out ready to go, especially with the bat.”
With Australia’s bid for another title thwarted, Healy will undergo a full assessment once the team returns home to prepare for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), which begins next Sunday.
