Reddy Anna Match Prediction: Kane Williamson to Miss Start of India Test Series Due to Groin Injury

Kane Williamson’s participation in the highly anticipated Test series against India is set to be delayed due to a groin strain. The New Zealand captain, who sustained the injury during the second Test against Sri Lanka, will remain in New Zealand to undergo rehabilitation, with hopes of joining the team later in the series. This news was confirmed in a statement released by New Zealand Cricket on October 9.

New Zealand selector Sam Wells commented on the decision, explaining, “The medical team has advised that Kane should rest and rehabilitate to avoid worsening the injury. We remain hopeful that he will be available for the latter part of the India series.”

In Williamson’s absence, New Zealand has called up Mark Chapman, an uncapped player at the Test level, as cover. Chapman has proven himself in the white-ball format and has an impressive first-class average of 41.9, with six centuries under his belt. His strong record against spin, particularly in sub-continent conditions, makes him an ideal replacement for the challenging series ahead.

“Mark has shown his ability to handle spin in international cricket, and his domestic performances in the Plunket Shield, including a century against India A, make him well-prepared for the upcoming series,” Wells added.

Meanwhile, Michael Bracewell will be available for the first Test before returning home for the birth of his second child. Ish Sodhi will replace Bracewell for the remaining matches.
